Senior Military Aide to the Supreme Leader, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi is concerned about cancer spreading all over Iran, Mehr reported.

"Like other incurable diseases, cancer must be researched further," Safavi said at the Razi hospital in Tehran.

The situation with cancer related diseases in Iran has reached alarming levels, as country's National Network for Health Policy reported in September.

According to the report, the cancer related problems in the country have increased, as cancer related diseases will develop more in the next 10 years.

The report says that this year about 90,000 cancer affected people have been registered, while 3 years ago this figure was 70,000.

Dr. Reza Zali, head of research center for Gastroenterology and Liver Disease of Iran's Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, said that the colon cancer is most common cancer in the world, and in Iran unfortunately about 50 percent of people under 50 happen to have it.

Some Iranian media outlets report that the number of cancer patients in Iran would double in the next 10-15 years.

Payam Azadeh, the head of Iran's Cancer treating Association said that each day about 100-150 cancer patients visit the local hospitals, and if the situation remains the same, cancer will soon become Iran's prime health-related problem.
