Syrian opposition leader: Recognition, arms embargo on table in Marrakesh

Syrian opposition leader Moaz al-Khatib said Monday that the Friends of Syria would discuss recognition and the partial lifting of an arms embargo to aid the rebels, at talks in Marrakesh later this week, reported dpa.

Asked about his coalition being recognized as sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people, al-Khatib said, "European countries are discussing it and they will give a final answer in Marrakesh," while noting also that the issue required input from the European Parliament.

His comments came after talks with EU foreign ministers, at which Britain's William Hague said al-Khatib had given "very clear assurances about the inclusivity of the national coalition."
