President of Turkey Abdullah Gul said on Monday that he closely followed developments in case of famous singer İbrahim Tatlises who had been shot in the head on Sunday, CNN Turk reported.

"I follow the topic closely. I hope he will recover soon," Gul told journalists at the joint press conference with his Croatian counterpart Ivo Josipovic.

According to the report, the singer was attacked when performing on a TV show. His assistant was wounded in the shoulder.

Police is looking for assaulters that fired the shots from a black car and escaped from the crime scene.

According to reports the 58-year-old singer was operated on three times and remained in intensive care. Doctors treating the folk singer at Maslak Acibadem hospital said he had suffered brain damage and risks being left paralyzed.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the hospital and asked doctors to do whatever they can to save Tatlises' life.
