Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi begins on Wednesday his first official visit to Armenia, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said, RIA Novosti reported.
China's top diplomat is paying his two-day visit to Armenia upon an invitation from his Armenian counterpart Edvard Nalbandyan.
"The visit of China's foreign minister will be the first visit of such high-ranking Chinese official to our country since Armenia declared its independence. Issues of strengthening and development of Armenian and Chinese relations as well as a variety of regional and international issues will be discussed during the visit," the ministry said in a statement.
During the visit the Chinese foreign minister is scheduled to meet with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of all Armenians Garegin II, Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisyan, Foreign Minister Edvard Nalbandyan and other officials.
