Armenian newspaper: Authorities-blacklisted businessman

At least one businessman will not find his name on the ticket of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) at the next parliamentary elections, Tert.am reported.

According to the information at the newspaper's disposal, Manvel Ghazaryan, the owner of the Vedi Alco company, who was elected to Parliament in the Vedi single-member constituency, will not run for Parliament at the next elections.

Although getting into Parliament in single-member constituencies has recently become "a habit", he has to "give up his hobby" this time. After speaking at the 2008 rallies and supporting Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Mr. Ghazaryan was "blacklisted" by Armenia's authorities and has faced serious problems over the past three years. One of his relatives created a problem for him as well. Nubar Kirakosyan, Ghazaryan's brother-in-law, who had been director of the Ararat branch of the Armrusgasprom Company until July 2011, has now been charged with embezzlement. Kirakosyan is rumored to have "bootlegged" gas to the local gas stations thereby causing damage to the company. Mr. Ghazaryan pledged to "cover" his brother-in-law's "sins" and resolved the problem.
