Council of Elders of the Armenian capital Yerevan convened a special session, at Yerevan City Hall on Friday, during which it was decided that the elections for Yerevan's new mayor will be held on November 15, News.am reported.

During the ruling coalition's Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Council session, the latter decided that RPA will nominate Acting Mayor Taron Margaryan as the new mayor.

Former Mayor Karen Karapetyan submitted his resignation on October 28. Pursuant to the law, the Council of Elders must elect the new mayor within one month following the outgoing mayor's resignation.

It is noteworthy that Karen Karapetyan resigned not only from his capacity as mayor, but also from his membership in the Council of Elders. His predecessor Gagik Beglaryan, however, is still a member of the Council.
