The Yerevan mayor’s office has rejected a request submitted by an authorised representative of the presidential candidate and leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovhannisyan on holding rallies, the press service of mayor’s office told News Armenia.

The Yerevan mayor's office has rejected a request submitted by an authorised representative of the presidential candidate and leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovhannisyan on holding rallies, the press service of mayor's office told News Armenia.

On Feb. 20 Armen Martirosyan submitted a notification to the administration of the mayor's office on holding rallies at Freedom Square from 15:00 to 19: 00 on February 23, 24 and 25.

The office rejected the request with reference to section 3 of Article 33 of the law 'On principles of administration and administrative proceedings' and returned the request as in accordance with Article 12 of the law 'On freedom of assembly' whereby a notification may be submitted no later than seven days before and no earlier than 30 days before the date of the rally.

The report also notes that in this case the notification was submitted in violation of the terms established by law.

Presidential elections were held in Armenia on Feb.18. Incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan won the presidential elections winning 58.64 per cent of the vote. The First Foreign Minister of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian ranked second winning 36.75 per cent, while former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan ranked third after receiving 2.15 per cent of the vote.
