Irakli Okruashvili To Be Released On GEL 10 Million Bail

( Prime-News ) - The Court changed a two-month pre-trial detention of Irakli Okruashvili, former Defense Minister of Georgia, leader of the party "Movement for the United Georgia", with a GEL 10 million bail.

Nika Gvaramia, Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia, stated at the special briefing today that Okruashvili was interrogated as witness on October 07, who testified to the investigation that his statements that he made in mass media did not meet the reality and served only one aim - gathering of political dividends.

"Okruashvili expressed will to cooperate with the investigation. He was interrogated in the presence of the invited attorney. During the interrogation Okruashvili confessed partially guilty to some of accusations, namely, he confessed to be guilty in the episode concerning bribe taking in large amounts with money extortion. The matter concerns 2,5% of stocks of Jemal Svanidze in "Geocell" Ltd that was purchased for USD 250 000. Real price of the object amounted to USD 10 million," Gvaramia stated.

Gvaramia also noted that Okruashvili also confessed to be guilty of negligence.

Irakli Okruashvili, former Defense Minister of Georgia, leader of the party "Movement for the United Georgia", was detained on September 27. General Prosecutor's Office accuses Okruashvili of money extortion, money laundering, misuse of power and negligence. The crime envisages imprisonment for 25 years.

Tbilisi City Court sentenced Irakli Okruashvili to two-month of pre-trial detention on September 29.

On September 25, Okruashvili accused the president of Georgia and the government of corruption, ordering murders and terrorizing society and the church.
