Georgia, Tbilisi / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / The European Union will monitor over the presidential elections in Georgia scheduled for 5 January 2008, Sergey Stanishev, the Bulgarian Prime Minister, said during the meeting with Georgian opposition representatives on 16 November.
The meeting was held behind the closed doors with participation of Georgian opposition.
"The democratic and free elections are necessary to overcome the current crisis in the country," meeting participants stated.
The participants stated that the Bulgarian Prime Minister paid more attention on freedom of press and prevention of any attempts to suppress spread of information.
