2008 Will be Turning Year for Georgia: Foreign Minister
"2008 will be turning year for Georgia in the process of transformation into a democratic and legal State of the European type," mentioned by the New Year appeal of the Georgian Foreign Minister, Gela Bejuashvili, to the employees of the diplomatic service of Georgia, Caucasus Press reports.
The Minister congratulates Georgian diplomats on the Christmas and the New Year and states that in 2007 the diplomatic service realized the goals and tasks forming the strategy of the foreign policy which presented the national interests to the international arena and ensured security and welfare of Georgian citizens.
"Holding fair and free elections in Georgia will be support to the current democratic processes in the country and irreversibility of the Euro-Atlantic way selected by Georgia. I am sure that the Georgian diplomats will professionally and selflessly implement the tasks facing them," the appeal says.
In addition, the appeal says that in 2008 a new Law on Diplomatic Service will come to power, which will be a new legal base for the diplomatic activities.
