Georgia, Tbilisi/corr. Trend, N.Kirtskhalia/ The law on displaced persons in Georgia took effect on 10 January. Any persons who wish to be repatriated must submit their applications, the Ministry on Refugees and Population of Georgia said.
The questionnaire forms have already been approved and a database created, the Ministry said. However, the applications have not been submitted as yet.
The law on repatriation has been adopted at the insistence of the Council of Europe. The law primarily concerns the Masheti Turks who have been displaced from the Southern Georgia in 1944 under the Stalin regime.
Currently Masheti Turks live mostly in Russia and Azerbaijan. Most of them intend to return their historical land.
