Georgia, Tbilisi / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / The main serious problem is to hold democratic election to the Georgian Parliament, David Gamkrelidze, the leader of the New Rights opposition party, stated after the meeting with the United States delegation.
Gamkrelidze discussed the results of the presidential election held in Georgia on 5 January and the upcoming parliamentary election with Matthew Bryza, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State United, behind the closed doors.
"The held presidential election in Georgia did not tackle the key tasks and did not give legitimacy to Michael Saakashvili in the eyes of population. Therefore, now we would strengthen our efforts in order to hold free parliamentary election," he stated.
The rights returned back an invitation sent to opposition to take part at the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected President of Georgia Saakashvili. The New Rights do not recognize the legitimacy of the new re-elected President of Georgia. Gamkrelidze collected 4.1% of votes during the election process and recognized Levan Gachechiladze, the candidate from the United Opposition of Georgia, as the winner of the presidential election.
