Georgian Opposition Stops Hunger Strike if Government Fulfils Its only Requirement: Georgian Oppositionist
Georgia, Tbilisi, 21 March / corr. Trend N.Kirskhalia / The united opposition and 'New Rights' Party agreed to stop the hunger strike if the Head of the Parliament implements their only requirement. "We decided to abandon all our claims against the Government and left only one - without changes to Constitution, 75 seats for the Majoritarians should be shared based on regional-proportional elections," said one of the participants of 12 days hunger strike in front of Georgian Parliament, Koba Davitashvili, after meeting with the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
In addition, he said that this number of Majoritarians should include MPs from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, who should be represented at the Parliament.
"If the Head of the Georgian Parliament, Nino Burjanadze, signs this agreement, we will immediately stop the hunger strike and begin negotiations on other issues," he said.
Davitashvili said that Patriarch got in touch with Burjanadze and advised the Government to accept opposition's proposal.
