Georgia to Send Two Special Groups & One Detachment to Afghanistan

Georgia, Tbilisi/ Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / Georgia will send two special groups and one detachment on a peacemaking mission to Afghanistan, Batu Kutelia, the Deputy Defence Minister of Georgia, stated to journalists.

"Presently, negotiations to deploy Georgian military are being held with Netherlands and France," Kutelia stated. Georgian military would be deployed in the south of Afghanistan, where the Netherlands and French military contingent is currently based.

Kutelia stated that the Georgian special military would be sent to the country by the request of the Americans.

Georgia has participated in peacemaking operations in Afghanistan. Georgian special groups provided security to the UN Mission in Georgia during the presidential elections in 2006.

Today, the Georgian military are serving the peacemaking mission in Kosovo and Iraq.
