( Xinhua ) - Georgian Foreign Minister David Bakradze on Wednesday denounced Russia for rendering assistance to Georgia's breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

It is "an attempt to legalise the process of annexation of these two regions of Georgia from Russia," Bakradze told journalists after a meeting of the Georgian Security Council, adding that "these actions by Russia contradict the norms of international law."

" Georgia is using all diplomatic, political and legal levers to suspend the annexation by Russia of the Abkhazian and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia," the minister said.

Bakradze made the statement in reply to the Russian Foreign Ministry's Wednesday report that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered the government to provide more substantive aid for the population in the two self-proclaimed republics.
