Georgia Materials 4 June 2008 19:02 (UTC +04:00)

Georgia, Tbilisi, 4 June / Trend corr N. Kirtskhalia/ "Ukraine's armed forces are ready to fulfil the tasks and to participate in the peacekeeping operation in Abkhazia, provided there is Ukrainian administration's political decision," the Ukrainian Defence Minister Yuri Yekhanurov said at a joint briefing with his Georgian counterpart David Kezerashvili on 4 June.

As to whether the Ukrainian peacekeepers are ready to participate in the operation in Abkhazia, Yekhanurov said that is a political issue.

Ukrainian Minister stressed that there are good relations between the two countries which were formed by President Mikheil Saakashvili and Viktor Yushchenko.

For a long period, Georgia has been urging to internationalize the peacekeeping forces in Abkhazia where only Russia servicemen are present, though the operation is being held under the auspices of CIS.
