Georgian Opposition and NGO Meet with Condoleezza Rice

Georgia, Tbilisi, 10 July / corr. Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / The Georgian opposition and non-government organizations (NGO) met with Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, at Tbilisi Marriott hotel. Nino Burjanadze, a former speaker of the Georgian Parliament, also participated in this meeting. Representatives of the opposition made a statement before the meeting.

David Gamkrelidze, one of leaders of the Unified opposition, said that they intended to raise problems of democracy that exist in Georgia. "We intend to discuss the situation in conflict zones, shortfalls of democracy and freedom problems, he stated. It was the best opportunity to familiarize a representative of the country, which could do a lot, with existing problems.

David Usupashvili, leader of Republicans, said that he intended to speak about mistakes, which were made over the past four years. "The authorities did not justify the popular confidence in Georgian, as well as the United State, as well. Therefore, it is necessary to re-estimate the developments taken place in the country," he said.

Shalva Natelashvili, leader of Laborites, stated that firstly, he would appeal to the United States to take Saakashvili away in the way they set him in Georgia. "Moreover, we will demand Merabishvili, (the Georgian Interior Minister) and Kodua (the head of the Special Operation Department of the Georgian Interior Ministry), his killers, to stand before the Hague Court," he said.
