Sukhumi’s Agreement to Participate in Berlin Meeting Means Softening of Moscow’s Position: Expert

Georgia, Tbilisi, 28 July / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia/ Abkhazia's agreement to participate in the Berlin meeting means Moscow's position towards Georgia-Abkhazia conflict has softened, political scientist Ramaz Sakvarelidze said.

In the evening of 26 July, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed Sukhumi's intension to attend the Berlin meeting which will take place at the end of this week.

"However, ductility of Russia, which naturally rules Abkhazians, causes apprehension. May be there is a dirty trick in the proposed plan on settlement of Georgia-Abkhazia conflict," said expert.

According to Sakvarelidze, Sukhumi's agreement to negotiate is definitely a positive point.

"Higher power of the United States and EU must play the crucial role in settlement of he conflict," he said.
