Georgia Materials 11 August 2008 20:03 (UTC +04:00)

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has suggested a mission from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) be sent to the breakaway region of South Ossetia where Russian and Georgian forces are fighting, reported dpa.

Medvedev was speaking by telephone with Finnish President Tarja Halonen. Finland is current president of the OSCE.

The Russian president also accused Tbilisi again of carrying out a "barbaric war operation" against the civilian population of South Ossetia and of triggering a humanitarian catastrophe.
