The UN may prolong the mandate of the monitoring mission to the conflict area in Abkhazia. Georgia hopes UN member-countries will be able to persuade Russia not to block prolonging the mandate.

Georgian Reintegration Minister Temur Yakobashvili said Tbilisi supports prolonging the mandate for four months.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon issued a recommendation to prolong the mandate.

Ki-Moon submitted a report to the UN Security Council.

The report said the presence of the UN mission in the area of Georgia-Abkhazia conflict is necessary.
