Tbilisi to discuss reducing poverty in South Caucasus

A regional conference on sustainable land resource management to reduce soil degradation and poverty in the South Caucasus will be held in Tbilisi on Nov. 18-19, the NGO REC Caucasus reported today.

A regional conference on sustainable land resource management to reduce soil degradation and poverty in the South Caucasus will be held in Tbilisi on Nov. 18-19, the NGO REC Caucasus reported today.

"The conference's main goal is to bring together all member countries, interested sides, experts and media representatives to exchange their experiences, achievements and developments within the project, as well as to highlight key directions for achieving the best results and ensuring project sustainability," the NGO said.

The project envisages enhancing ecosystems, poverty reduction, food security and and farmer income by combating desertification, advancing the natural resource base and promoting the agricultural sector.

The conference will be held at the Sheraton Metechi Palace.

The conference will be attended by representatives of environment ministries, legislative bodies, governmental structures dealing with land management issues, international organizations, donor organizations, NGOs, academic circles, businessmen, local communities and other interested persons from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
