Russia will have to legally recognize Georgia's 37 brands patented by "Gruzpatent", head of the National Intellectual Property Service Irakli Gvaladze told journalists. He said it will possible according to an agreement on the protection of brands, signed by Russia and Georgia in 2004.
In Russia itself, "Rospatent" states that the protection of Georgia's 37 brands is not applicable to Russia.
Gvaladze said that despite the Russian side's statements that it does not recognize the decision of "Gruzpatent", it will still have to comply with the terms of bilateral agreements and legally recognize the Georgian brands of several types of Georgian cheese, khachapuri, chacha and churchkhela.
