The U.S. does not recognize the legitimacy of the de facto presidential elections in South Ossetia. As State Department spokesman Mark Toner said at a briefing, the United States will never accept illegitimate elections.
"We do not consider it necessary to comment on this topic. We support Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and our position remains unchanged - the U.S. will never recognize the legitimacy of these elections," Toner said.
