A Georgian soldier has died in Afghanistan, blown up on a mine, the Georgian Defence Ministry said on Saturday.

The Ministry offers its condolences to the family of Corporal Besik Niniashvili who died whilst carrying out his duties in Helmand province. The Georgian military serve under the command of the United States there.

Corporal Niniashvili served in the 31st rifle battalion of the third brigade of the Georgian Defence Ministry since 2007.

He is the eleventh Georgian soldier to be killed while serving in as part of the ISAF operation in Afghanistan

There are 900 Georgian troops in Afghanistan, but their number will increase up to 1600 soldiers in 2012. The Georgian Parliament had already agreed to appeal to the President to send additional troops to Afghanistan.
