The first group of long-term international observers at the parliamentary elections in Georgia will arrive in the country in September, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze told reporters on Thursday.
He said Georgia has officially sent an invitation to monitor pre-election situation in Georgia and the elections themselves scheduled for October 1, to the OSCE, EU, Council of Europe and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
"We also sent an invitation to 50 countries that have expressed willingness to send observers to Georgia and we look forward to a delegation of U.S. congressmen," Kapanadze said.
Georgian Central Election Commission has already started to accept applications from observers. Georgian observers should submit their application prior to August 5, and foreign - until September.
