NATO servicemen undergo mountain training in Georgia

A course of basic training of mountain riflemen ended in Sachkhere military base (region of Imereti, West Georgia) on Saturday. At the ceremony, Defense Minister Dmitri Shashkin awarded 16 servicemen from five NATO countries and 11 partner countries with diplomas and certificates.

A course of basic training of mountain riflemen ended in Sachkhere military base (region of Imereti, West Georgia) on Saturday. At the ceremony, Defense Minister Dmitri Shashkin awarded 16 servicemen from five NATO countries and 11 partner countries with diplomas and certificates.

In the framework of NATO program "Partnership for Peace" American, Norwegian, Estonian, Latvian and Armenian troops underwent training in Georgia. They were trained for three weeks to maintain the fight in the mountains, as well as overcome the mountain rivers and other obstacles and assistance.

As stressed by the Georgian Defence Minister, the whole course is conducted by Georgian soldiers who were at one time educated in France. "This is a result of reforms in the defense sector, as our military has instructed and prepared military of NATO," he said.
