Wanted former MP, head of Akhalkalaki office of opposition coalition Georgia Dream Melik Raisyan sentenced to six years in prison in absentia. In addition, he will have to pay $6000 to the state budget.
Raisyan is accused of fraud. The prosecution claims that he extorted some$24,000 from Mataradze for assistance in tax evasion.
Lawyer of the defendant Teimuraz Kutivadze said there is no evidence of fraudulent transaction supposedly carried out by Raisyan.
The representative of the opposition coalition condemned in absentia, is not in Georgia and wanted. Raisyan was a member of the Parliament of three convocations, and joined Parliament in 2004 on the lists of the ruling United National Movement party.
