New U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland presented on Wednesday his credentials to Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze.
Vashadze said that it was the first introductory meeting. Norland will present his credentials to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in the coming days and will take up his duties.
"He is already involved in the cases and with a delegation of Congressmen attended a meeting with our President. He is a very experienced diplomat. He was ambassador to several countries, most recently in Uzbekistan. All of our colleagues who had contact with him, including our Ambassador to the United States, Temur Yakobashvili and our Ambassador to Uzbekistan Givi Kublashvili characterize Norland as a professional, educated and informed person. I was left with the impression today that our cooperation will be just as good, close and mutually beneficial, as with John Tefft and John Bass," Vashadze said.
