The U.S. is closely monitoring the pre-election situation in Georgia, leader of the Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili said today.
"The visit emphasizes great attention paid by the U.S, President Obama, Secretary of state Clinton to holding the democratic elections in Georgia," he said after a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Melia today.
"A delegation led by Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Melia is in Georgia," he said. "It promised us that it will do everything for democratic and fair elections in Georgia."
David Usupashvili and Manana Kobakhidze attended the meeting. The U.S. delegation was accompanied by new U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland.
Parliamentary elections in Georgia will be held on Oct. 1.
