Georgia chose freedom and goes on this way, in spite of all sorts of problems and interference, said President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
He expressed his loyalty to this way, which will confirmed and elections scheduled for October 1. "This is an honest and objective elections and all international organizations confirm the competitiveness and equal opportunities of the political forces," the president said.
Saakashvili said that Georgia after gaining freedom fight for its preservation against constant attacks northern neighbor. "But we do not only want to preserve freedom, we want to develop democratic institutions that are able to create over the years and to develop these institutions, because we need development, and development is impossible without democracy" he said.
Georgian President acknowledged that in this way there was defeats, as was the case with the latest facts of violence and torture in the prison system. "But we found the strength to take tough steps to put in charge of the system of national defense, dismissing two ministers, and this is just the beginning, as will complete the reform of the system this situiation will never happen again," he said.
Saakashvili said that the violence "will never be legitimized."
"In Georgia, democratic majority will not accept any violence or intimidation or pressure. Our response to these challenges, strengthening the rule of law and pluralism. This is a complicated process, but there is no alternative," he said.
Saakashvili expressed the hope that in a few days people of Georgia will take the right decision at parliament elections.
"People will decide what the future will be in the country in which they live. Main thing that has been confirmed, Georgia will never come back and any amount of money from abroad and drills at our border helding by northern neighbor do not force us to change the selection democracy and development, which we see in Western values," he said.
President Saakashvili said that international institutions have recognized the success of Georgia in the area of public safety, economic development, goverment services, etc., which speak of the development of society.
"We confirm that we have come to do good deeds and the people of Georgia will not allow to change the selection of Georgia. We believe in our people and Georgia will once again go through the development of democratic institutions, confirming our choice to be free and open," Saakashvili said.
