The Consulate of Georgia is maintaining regular contact with 2000 Georgian citizens, who now live in New York. According to the Consulate, at this time there are no reports about injured Georgian citizens as a result of Hurricane Sandy in New York.

The Consulate of Georgia is maintaining regular contact with 2000 Georgian citizens, who now live in New York. According to the Consulate, at this time there are no reports about injured Georgian citizens as a result of Hurricane Sandy in New York.

One person died in New York as a result of the first gust of the hurricane. He was in a house when a tree was blown over by the hurricane.

According to the Vice-Consul of Georgia in the U.S., Giorgi Tsekvava, Georgians were warned two days before the approaching hurricane. "We advised them to follow recommendations that local authorities were issuing to the public," he said.

The next two days are the most dangerous. The peak of the hurricane in New York is expected this morning.
