Georgia, Tbilisi, Nov 10 / Trend N.Kirtskhalia /

The workers, who are constructing the Paravan hydroelectric plant, went on strike on Saturday.

They are demanding wage raise and offsetting of two months' debts.

The protestors told journalists that they get from 400 to 700 lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari), but the Turkish workers and specialists are getting near 2 thousand dollars.

"It's not fair and we demand higher wages. We won't start working until our demands aren't met," said the strikers.

Meanwhile, the administration of the construction company says that the Turkish company, which builds a hydroelectric, has abandoned its obligations, and now there is a change of management. The problems of pay occurred because of this issue. However, the talk of wages raise hasn't been considered yet.

Paravan hydropower is being constructed in South Georgia, near Lake Paravani. A new hydroelectric plant was built by Turkish company "Georgian-Urban Energy." Turkish company intended to make an investment of 100 million U.S. dollars in this project. The station's power will be 78 megawatt / hours of electricity.
