Interior Ministry seizes weapons and ammunition in Western Georgia

Employees of the Head Directorate of the Interior Ministry on the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region seized a large amount of unregistered weapons and ammunition.
According to the Interior Ministry, based on operative information it became clear the former chief of the Second Division of the Constitutional Security Department of the Interior Ministry of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Roman Shamatava brought a large number of weapons and ammunition to his assistant, and asked to hide them in the basement.
During a search of the building 4 rifles, one sub-machine gun and 900 cartridges were found. Shamatava is wanted person.
A criminal case has been filed against him under Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia - illegal purchase, possession, carrying, manufacture, transport, transfer or sale of firearms and explosives devices, the Interior Ministry said.
