PM: Georgia hopes for soonest possible recovery of relations with Russia

Georgia hopes for the soonest possible recovery of relations with Russia, Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said following talks with the Armenian government on Thursday, ITAR-TASS reported.

"We hope and are trying to recover and adjust relations with Russia as soon as possible", he said while responding to a question on the restoration of rail based communications through Abkhazia.
Ivanishvili believes that the recovery of communications is "related to shared issues between the countries and will be seen as such".

"You know that we have had very serious problems in our relations with Russia in the past. Unfortunately, these problems remain serious", Ivanishvili stated.

"Today we have an uneasy relationship with our Abkhazian brothers and all involved need to signify their willingness".

The head of government expressed his confidence that "given the willingness of all, these issues can be resolved much faster than before".

"Georgia expresses its willingness", he said.

Military action was launched in the Georgian region of South Ossetia on Aug.8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August of that year.
