Author of scandalous video footages showing violence and torture in Prison No.8 in Tbilisi, Vladimir Bedukadze was detained last night at the Tbilisi International Airport. He was detained after returning to the motherland to testify.
Bedukadze intends to submit additional video footages and give testimony about the filming conditions and their customer. According to experts, based on his testimony a number of senior officials of Mikheil Saakashvili's government perhaps will be held criminally liable.
When Bedukadze returned to Georgia he knew that he will be arrested on the case of violence in the prison, as he filmed the videos being an employee of the penitentiary system.
Protest actions were held in Georgia in mid-September in connection with videos of abuse of prisoners that were shown by opposition TV channels. Many experts believe that these footages' helped leader of the opposition coalition "Georgian Dream" Bidzina Ivanishvili's victory in the parliamentary elections held on Oct.1.
