The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has accused a member of the parliamentary minority, former Deputy Attorney General David Sakvarelidze of scams and extortion.

In order to fully consider the case, Sakvarelidze was summoned for questioning today, according to a statement of the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.

However Sakvarelidze doesn't intend to appear at the prosecutor's office and invites investigators to question him at his office in parliament, the statement said.

According to the statement, on December 28, 2012, the investigative unit of Regional Prosecutor's Office of Samtskhe-Javakheti launched an investigation into the embezzlement of municipal budgetary funds by Akhaltsikhe municipal officials. According to privatisation documents of Akhaltsikhe municipality, in 2011-2012 personnel of the General Prosecutor's Office solicited funds on a large scale by forcing businessmen to purchase depreciated and obsolete buildings.
