A concert given by famous Russian conductor and violinist Yuri Bashmet at Tbilisi Conservatory was held last night amid a protest by several young people. They were protesting against Bashmet, who had visited the Georgian occupied territories several times without Tbilisi's consent.

The rally participants urged the arrest of the Russian musician for violating the Georgian law on 'Occupied territories'. This law envisages the arrest of people who illegally visited the Georgian occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Bashmet told the media that he was always against the war. After obtaining the first information about Georgia's invasion in South Ossetia, he protested, but later obtained more accurate information.

Bashmet's concert was for charity. The income raised from the concert will be spent on talented Georgian musicians.
