Georgia, Tbilisi, June 5 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /

The population of the villages of Kirnati and Maradidi of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Georgia, is protesting against the construction of a hydropower plant near their settlements. At the protest, residents complained about the lack of information and failure to resolve the issue of compensation.

According to them, the construction will cause environmental disaster, including increased humidity and soil erosion.

The action is attended by representatives of the regional authorities. According to them, the villages are not threatened by environmental disaster, but in order to protect the interests of the population, a working group will soon be created to hold talks with investors and increase the awareness of the residents.

The Ministry of Energy calls on the population to approach the investor with any comments made to the investor, and in case of ignoring to contact the Ministry.
