Georgian President, Mikheil Saakashvili called upon the population to be active in the presidential election, he told in an interview with journalists in Samegrelo village.

According to the Georgian President, he travelled the Samegrelo village and now travels to Tbilisi to vote.

"People need to know that every vote has significance. This is a worthy fight. Every vote given today, will have very different results in the future. Therefore, there is no time to sit at home and give up. A right tendency has started recently. Yet, time is required, but the future events will largely depend on today's activity. Therefore, just as I now hasten to the election, I call and advise everyone who has not voted, to go to the polling stations," Georgian President said.

The presidential election in Georgia started on Sunday. The polling stations were opened at 8.00 and will be closed at 20.00 (local time).

According to the Georgian Central Election Commission, the number of voters able to participate in the presidential election in Georgia is 3,537,719. Around 3,655 polling stations and 34 additional special poling stations will be opened in the country.
