During a visit to the U.S., Georgian Deputy Defence Minister Mikhail Darchiashvili met with member of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Congressman John Shimkus and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Congressman Ted Deutch, the Georgian Defence Ministry told Trend on Thursday.

During a visit to the U.S., Georgian Deputy Defence Minister Mikhail Darchiashvili met with member of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Congressman John Shimkus and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Congressman Ted Deutch, the Georgian Defence Ministry told Trend on Thursday.

Darchiashvili updated the U.S. side with the security situation in Georgia and the region.

The sides discussed the prospects of Georgia's accession to NATO and the EU.
'An emphasis has been made on the transformation process in the defence sector, as well as the progress and contribution of Georgia in Afghanistan's operation', the message said.

'U.S. congressmen have expressed their strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as well as the country's integration into NATO. The U.S. side also thanked the Georgian side for its contribution in the ISAF mission'.
