Tbilisi, Georgia, March 14

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

The European Commission has appealed to the Council of the European Union regarding the signing of the association agreement with Georgia.

The European Commission asks the Council of the EU to make a decision on the temporary effect of the association agreement with Georgia until the signing of this agreement and its entry into force, a message posted on the EU website said, Georgian Foreign Ministry told Trend on March 14.

It is planned to sign the association agreement no later than August 2014.

The decision of the Council of the EU on the temporary effect of the agreement until its signing and entry into force is necessary for signing the document by the EU. The European Commission proposes to put into force the major part of the agreement before it takes effect. The temporary effect touches on the articles on comprehensive free trade space, as well as most of the chapters on sectoral cooperation and several other articles of the agreement
