Georgia will sign the association agreement with the European Union on June 27, in Brussels, the country's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on May 14.
The minister made the remarks at a briefing after his meeting with the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy in Tbilisi.
He stressed that the visit of the European Council head to Georgia shows the support to the country's integration into Europe.
"The signing of the association agreement is very important for Georgia and this will turn the country's accession to the EU into an irreversible process," the prime minister said.
After signing the agreement, Georgia is ready to carry out more active work for rapprochement with the EU, Garibashvili said.
Georgia initialed the association agreement with the EU in late November 2013. In diplomatic practice, initialing means preliminary signing of an international treaty by those involved in its development to approve the reached agreement.
Georgia's government representatives have repeatedly expressed confidence that the association agreement with the EU will be signed in September, 2014.
