Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili and his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu discussed the upcoming NATO summit during a telephone conversation.

Margvelashvili thanked Basescu for not recognizing of the so-called elections in Abkhazia, the Georgian presidential administration told Trend Aug. 26.

He also thanked his colleague for his support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as support for the European integration of Georgia.

During the conversation the sides expressed hope that Georgia's progress will be properly fixed during the NATO summit in Wales in early September.

Basescu and Margvelashvili also discussed the situation in Ukraine, stressing the need to ensure security in the region.

The Georgian president invited his colleague to pay an official visit to his country.
