Patriarchate of Georgia and SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) signed a memorandum of cooperation, according to which SOCAR will provide churches and monasteries of the country with free gas during the year.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II and the head of the Georgian representation of SOCAR Mahir Mammadov, according to the report, released Nov.4 by the Patriarchate of Georgia.
The report said that after the ceremony, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, on behalf of the clergy and Synod thanked SOCAR for its help to Georgian Orthodox Church.
"I would like to express my gratitude for the help that you do not only to the Georgian Church, but to the Catholic, Muslim and other religious organizations," Catholicos-Patriarch said. "SOCAR gives us the opportunity to provide religious organizations with natural gas. I hope that this assistance will be continued in the future as well."
