Georgian government would like the country to join the European Union (EU), Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said in his interview with CNN TV channel.
Following the territorial dispute with Russia, Georgia committed itself to European integration in terms of economy as well and therefore, signed a free trade agreement with EU in June, the prime minister said.
"We assess this as Georgia's return to the large European family. We have common culture and most importantly, values, and we want to live in better Georgia," he said. "We really intend to turn the country into a true European state."
Garibashvili added that the country's aspiration to join the EU is not directed against anyone, including Russia.
The prime minister said the peaceful and stable situation in neighboring countries is of Russia's interest.
