Prospects for deepening cooperation in the military sphere were discussed during the meeting of the Minister of Defense of Georgia Mindia Janelidze with Spanish counterpart Pedro Morenes Eulate, the Georgian Defense Ministry told Trend Jan.21.
It is reported that Mindia Janelidze is on an official visit to Spain.
Janelidze thanked the Spanish side for support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, as well as support in the process of integration into the EU and NATO.
He stressed the importance of the participation of Spanish officers in the EU monitoring mission.
Special attention was paid to such issues as cyber security, joint exercises and cooperation in the field of military education. Janelidze offered the Spanish servicemen to take a course in Sachkhere mountain training school.
The process of integration into Euro-Atlantic structures and NATO package, provided to Georgia at Wales's summit of the alliance, were also discussed at the meeting.
The parties also discussed the participation of the Georgian contingent in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan under the auspices of NATO and in Central Africa under the auspices of the European Union.
Particular attention was paid to the situation in Ukraine and regional security issues.
During the visit, the Georgian delegation will visit the armored brigade base.
The Georgian defense minister will also visit an exhibition of the Spanish artist Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau and attend the "General Kvinitadze" medal awarding ceremony of the writer Luke Molina.
