Substantial NATO-Georgia Package updated at meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.4

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP) has been updated at the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs on December 2, Trend reports via the Georgian Defense Ministry.

SNGP is a set of initiatives endorsed at the September 2014 Wales Summit, aimed at strengthening Georgia’s defense capabilities and developing closer security cooperation and interoperability with NATO Members.

The ministry says the Updated Substantial NATO-Georgia Package will further enhance Georgia’s defense and security capabilities, strengthen sustainability, enhance compatibility with NATO, and further facilitate Georgia’s preparation process to join the Alliance.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg stated at a news conference after the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers that NATO member states confirmed they are looking for different ways to strengthen their support for Georgia at a practical level by approving the updated SNGP.
