USAID ready to expand partnership with Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 20

By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

USAID is open to expanding partnership with Georgia’s financial institutions in order to use their resources and experience to support the country's development, the USAID representative in Georgia told Trend.

Currently, USAID is cooperating with the Bank of Georgia through the BizLink project within the USAID Economic Security Program, which is aimed at Georgia’s light industry enterprises support, the source said.

Besides the Bank of Georgia, USAID is partnering with Georgia’s TBC Bank and the Crystal Microfinance, the largest non-banking financial institution in Georgia, the USAID added.

“We are open to expanding these partnerships and reaching out to other financial institutions to leverage their resources and expertise in support of Georgia’s development,” the USAID noted.

USAID’s ultimate goal is to provide Georgian entrepreneurs with the tools they need to expand their business, hire the best specialists and stimulate economic growth throughout Georgia, the source said.

“We want to work with financial institutions in support of these shared objectives, and ensure that where entrepreneurs have the relevant skills, these institutions can provide the tailored financial services and vehicles to support them,” the USAID said.

“Since the launch of our 2020-2025 development strategy, we have increased our emphasis on partnering with the country’s emerging private sector, which we see as the true driver of inclusive, widespread economic growth and prosperity,” the USAID noted.

Currently, we have open opportunities in the agriculture sector for advancing modern, high-value agriculture, and in the skills sector, where we are looking to industries to co-design the skills and curricula their personnel needs to succeed in the economy of the future, the source added.
