OECD continues to support Georgia’s economic growth (Exclusive)

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has implemented a number of initiatives in Georgia in 2021, Daniel Quadbeck, Head of the Eastern Europe and South Caucasus Division of Global Relations Secretariat at OECD told Trend.

According to Quadbeck, the OECD supported Georgia in the development of of a new Strategy for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) for 2021-2025. A particular focus was put on policies to accelerate the digital transformation of SMEs.

Meanwhile, through the EU4Environment initiative, the OECD continued to assist Georgia in its path to green economy, preserve its natural capital and increase people’s environmental well-being by supporting environment-related action, and setting mechanisms to better manage environmental risks and impacts, Quadbeck said.

Among the actions carried out within the EU4Environment initiative in 2021 are a seminar on waste reduction policies and a report on fossil-fuel subsidies, he noted.

Other OECD programs in Georgia included the support of the improved public governance, prevention and fighting corruption, and improving the educational system, Quadbeck added.

The OECD stands ready to further broaden cooperation with Georgia by implementing a number of obligations set by Georgia’s association agenda with the EU, he concluded.
