BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 24. The EU-funded “EU 4 Smart Economic Development” bilateral program will be launched in Georgia in 2022, the spokesperson for the European Commission told Trend.

The current program will run from 2022 to 2027, while the total cost of it is 24 million euros, the source noted.

The “EU 4 Smart Economic Development” program is aimed at narrowing the digital divide by expanding access to affordable and secure broadband connectivity, the spokesperson said.

Another aim of this program is to increase digital human capital by creating a training building system to support basic ICT skills for the general population and high-tech advanced ICT skills for the developers.

The program is also targeted at supporting digital growth through the digitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of Georgia, as well as support policy development and coordination for all stakeholders to support relevant institutions and institutions in capacity building, regulatory and policy reform.

According to the European Commission, the EU will continue to support Georgia in implementing reforms and approximating its legislation to the EU practice within the framework of the Association Agreement and its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA).
